چکیده

Fig 2. A. ADC values of the middle cerebellar peduncle showed significant group differences (p<0.0001): MSA-c > MSA-p > PD = Normal. B. ADC values of the posterior putamen showed significant group differences (p<0.0001): MSA-p > MSA-c = PD = Normal. The MSA-mixed group (n=4) is not shown for the clarity. Error bar= 1 SD. C. SARA scores that assess the severity of cerebellar ataxia correlate significantly positively with ADC values of the middle cerebellar peduncle. *Patient A showed DOPA-responsive parkinsonism and was initially diagnosed as PD. She showed increased ADC in the middle cerebellar peduncle. [F]FDG-PET showed reduced FDG uptake in the putamen and the cerebellum, which is consistent with MSA. *n=16 (Three cases were missing due to the absence of SARA scores).

Diffusion tensor imaging in the characterization of multiple system atrophy

PURPOSE Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a rare neurodegenerative disease that remains poorly understood, and the diagnosis of MSA continues to be challenging. We endeavored to improve the diagnostic process and understanding of in vivo characteristics of MSA by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty MSA subjects, ten parkinsonian dominant (MSA-P), ten cerebellar dominan...

Apparent diffusion coefficient measurements of the middle cerebellar peduncle differentiate the Parkinson variant of MSA from Parkinson's disease and progressive supranuclear palsy.

Clinical differentiation of parkinsonian syndromes such as the Parkinson variant of multiple system atrophy (MSA-P) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) from Parkinson's disease is difficult in the early stage of the disease. In order to identify objective markers for differential diagnosis, we studied these three groups of patients with diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI). Sixteen MSA-P patients,...

The hot cross bun sign.

Hot cross bun sign refers to the cruciform-shaped hyperintensity on T2W axial magnetic resonance images (MRI) in multisystem atrophy due to the selective loss of myelinated transverse pontocerebellar fibers and neurons in the pontine raphe and sparing of the pontine tegmentum and corticospinal tracts [Figure 1, Figure 2].[1] The name derives from a sweet spiced bun baked by the Christian church...

Decreased striatal monoaminergic terminals in multiple system atrophy detected with positron emission tomography.

We examined the density of striatal presynaptic monoaminergic terminals, using a ligand for the type 2 vesicular monoamine transporter, (+)-[11C]dihydrotetrabenazine, with positron emission tomography in 7 normal control subjects, 8 multiple system atrophy (MSA) patients with predominantly parkinsonian features (MSA-P), 8 MSA patients with principally cerebellar dysfunction (MSA-C), and 6 spora...

Evaluation of the relationship between axon injury and clinical symptoms in patients with multiple sclerosis using diffusion tensor MRI imaging

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive imaging technology that shows detailed anatomical and pathological images. It is often used for disease detection, diagnosis, and treatment monitoring, in particular with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Multiple sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer's and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. However, conventional MRI provides only qualitative inf...
